2021 Design Thinking Sessions
Day 1
Design Thinking Introduction | Daniela Marx
Design thinking is a non-linear process that critical thinking that focuses on empathize, to challenge assumptions, and redefine problems to create innovative solutions.
The first day was spent thinking about how water affects us. The brainstorming session introduced many different perspectives on how water affects the lives of everyone, but we focused specifically on New Orleans residents.
Day 2
Design Thinking Discussion | Dean Kern Maass + Daniela Marx
On this day we broke down the question "What is Living with Water?" and challenged our preconceived assumptions. This boundary examination was done through a series word to help the teams develop to a greater understanding of the research question and open their minds to larger issues that might exist.
The history of the issue was reviewed in order to understand past obstacles. Current solutions were also analyzed to seek possible modifications.
Day 3
Design Thinking Discussion | Dean Kern Maass + Daniela Marx
We introduced solutions through identifying the needs and motivations of our target group. Teams generated as many ideas as they possibly and then created criteria by which they could evaluate each solution. This allowed for the combination and expansion of different ideas while making sure all team members where aligned towards the same goal.
Day 4
Design Thinking Discussion | Dean Kern Maass + Daniela Marx
Teams spent time reviewing the objectives of their question to help narrow down on possible solutions. During this stage it is important to voice any idea, regardless oh how silly it may seem. The teams then selected the most powerful solution impacting the largest group.
Day 5
Design Thinking | Group Presentations
